Sewage Cleanup · Staten Island
Basement sewage backups, septic backups, and storm backups, we extract the Category 3 water, remove what cannot be saved, and decontaminate.
Overview
A sewage backup is Category 3 water, a biohazard, and on Staten Island it shows up in the basements of single-family homes when a main line clogs, a storm overwhelms the system, or, in the older areas still on septic, a system fails. Because the homes are full houses with finished basements, a backup contaminates a lot of living space fast. We extract it in protective gear, remove porous materials that cannot be saved, and decontaminate to a genuinely safe standard.
Staten Island Homes
Staten Island has more detached houses with finished basements than anywhere else in the city. That means more carpet, drywall and furniture at the lowest point of the house, and more to lose when the line backs up. Most of it can be rebuilt, since we handle basement sewage cleanup and the rebuild. What matters most is how fast the contaminated material comes out, before the humidity gets into the walls and the rooms above.
In low areas near the water, like Midland Beach, New Dorp Beach, Oakwood and Tottenville, heavy rain and high tides back up the storm and sewer lines. If it happens to you more than once, ask a licensed plumber about a backwater valve, keep belongings in plastic bins on shelves, and keep the floor drain clear.
Some Staten Island homes are still on septic. A septic backup is sewage too, and the cleanup is the same. We clean the house, and a septic company handles the tank.
How The Job Runs
Sewage cleanup has to happen in the right order, or it spreads the contamination instead of removing it.

Good to Know
The first few minutes matter, and the safest steps are mostly about staying out of the way. Keep everyone, especially kids and pets, out of the affected area. Stop using water anywhere in the home so you are not adding to the backup. Do not try to mop or shop-vac it yourself, sewage is a biohazard and the contamination goes airborne as it dries. If you can reach it safely, shutting off the main water supply helps. Then call. The faster contaminated water is professionally extracted, the less of your flooring, walls, and belongings has to be thrown out.
