Sewage Cleanup · The Bronx
When a building line or the street sewer pushes waste back up, we contain it, pump it out, strip out what soaked it up, disinfect, dry and rebuild. One crew, day or night, with free estimates.
What We Do
Sewage is a biohazard, so this is never a mop-and-fan job. All Star Restoration cleans up sewage backups anywhere in the Bronx, day or night, at 646-543-2242. We do sewage cleanup in the Bronx from the moment the waste is still on the floor until the room is painted and usable again, and you deal with the same company the whole way.
That covers a cellar under a six-story walk-up, a garden apartment, the finished basement of a two-family house in the north or east Bronx, or the restroom and stock room of a shop on a commercial avenue.
Step By Step
Sewage has a strict order. Drying wet material that is still contaminated spreads the problem, so the dirty material always leaves first.
Call 646-543-2242 and a crew is on the way, usually 30 minutes to an hour and a half, depending on the hour and traffic. Until we arrive, stop using every drain in the unit.
We close off the space, suit up, and extract the standing waste before anything else is moved or touched.
Porous material that took on sewage is bagged and carried out. Floors, wall bottoms, pipes and kept items are scrubbed and treated.
Drying equipment goes in last. Once readings say the structure is dry, our crew replaces the drywall and flooring we removed.
Hidden Damage
Sewage rarely stays where you can see it. It wicks up drywall from behind a baseboard, runs under a vinyl floor, and settles into the bottom plate of a wood wall. Leaving any of that in place is how a smell keeps coming back weeks later.
We check with moisture meters and thermal imaging before we cut anything, so we remove what is wet and contaminated and leave sound material alone. After drying, we take readings again and leave the dehumidifiers on until the readings match dry material, not just until the room looks fine.
Big parts of the borough drain through combined sewers, which carry rain and building waste in one pipe. In heavy rain that mix can back up through the lowest drain in a building, so when a cellar floor drain lets it in, we treat every surface it touched as sewage, rain or not.
Buildings and Tenants
The building owner is responsible for the building's sewer line and its repairs, DEP fixes problems in the city sewer, and the cleanup goes to whoever the owner or tenant hires. Most Bronx homes are rented, so a backup usually involves more than one party. City housing rules make owners keep apartments and common areas safe, clean and well maintained, and NYC DEP says owners maintain and repair the private sewer line from the building to the street, while DEP fixes problems it confirms in the city sewer. If raw sewage is coming into a home, DEP asks that it be reported to 311.
We clean it up either way. Who pays depends on the building and the cause, and we can walk you through it when you call.
Early Warnings
Grease, wipes and old roots in the service line are the usual causes. If you see two or more of these, call us and we'll check the units on that line. If waste has already come up, read why sewage is a biohazard before anyone grabs a mop.
Rebuild and Estimates
Once the space is clean and dry, our own crew handles the reconstruction work: new drywall, insulation, flooring, trim and paint where sewage forced them out.
The estimate is free, and you see what has to come out and why before any work starts.
What We Handle
Choose the card that fits best, or just phone and our crew figures it out once they see the space. Our sewage cleanup page lays out the full process, and our Bronx restoration services also cover water, mold and fire damage.

Yes. We clean whatever space was hit, no matter where the blockage began, and we explain what we found to whoever arranged the work.
Hard items like metal, glass and sealed plastic can usually be cleaned and disinfected. Mattresses, upholstered pieces, rugs and anything cardboard that soaked up sewage generally have to go. Some clothing can be professionally laundered, depending on how long it sat.
If the waste stayed in the cellar or in one room we seal off, many families stay put. If it reached your living space, keep young children, older relatives and anyone with a weak immune system somewhere else until disinfection is done.
Not if the contaminated material comes out. The smell lives in wet drywall, padding and wood, so we remove what sewage reached, disinfect, and dry the rest instead of masking it.
