What We Do

Everything a Bronx mold job needs

We start with the water, not the stain. Kill the spot without stopping the moisture behind it and the mold grows back.

From there, one company handles the whole job, from the first look to the finished wall. The inspection and the estimate are free. All Star Restoration does mold remediation in the Bronx around the clock. Call 646-543-2242 to set it up.

What the job includes

  • Tracing hidden moisture with meters and thermal imaging
  • Plastic containment held under HEPA negative air
  • Removing moldy drywall, plaster, trim and carpet, bagged inside the enclosure
  • HEPA vacuuming and cleaning the framing that stays
  • Drying the structure until readings are normal
  • Keeping containment up until the space checks out clean
  • Rebuilding what we took out, with our own crew

Why the Bronx calls All Star

  • New York State mold license and IICRC certification
  • We correct the moisture source so the mold does not return
  • Fully licensed and insured

Where we find it in Bronx buildings

  • Around a leaky steam riser or radiator valve that keeps one corner damp all heating season
  • Inside a shared wall below an upstairs bathroom with a worn tub seal or slow drain
  • On top-floor ceilings under an aging roof or a clogged roof drain
  • In basements and ground-floor rooms after heavy rain pushes water in
  • In closets and bedroom corners on outside walls, where furniture blocks air and condensation sits

Attics and crawl spaces are part of the work too, and our full list of mold services covers each type.

Start To Finish

From your call to the closed-up wall

Call 646-543-2242 at any hour. A crew usually gets there in 30 minutes to an hour and a half, depending on the hour and traffic.

  • Look. We walk the space with you and ask when the stain showed up.
  • Trace. Moisture meters and a thermal camera, run across walls, ceiling and floor, show where the water is coming from, whether that's a riser, the roof or the unit upstairs.
  • Measure. We size the moldy area. Over 10 square feet, state law requires a separate licensed assessor.
  • Seal off. Plastic walls and HEPA negative air go up, so dust stays inside the work zone and out of the hallway.
  • Remove. Moldy material comes out bagged, and the framing behind it is HEPA vacuumed and cleaned.
  • Dry. Dehumidifiers stay on, and we take readings daily until the wall and floor read dry.
  • Confirm. We check that the space is clean and dry before the plastic comes down. On jobs over 10 square feet, containment stays until the assessor's check passes.
  • Rebuild. Our reconstruction crew hangs new drywall, tapes and paints, so nobody is left looking at bare studs.

EPA says mold can trigger asthma in some people who are sensitive to it. If anyone at home has asthma, tell us at the start so we can plan where they stay during the work.

In The Building

Who we keep in the loop

Most Bronx homes are rented, so a mold job here usually involves more people than the person who called. Each one hears from us.

  • The tenant. We can come out on a tenant's call, find the moisture and explain what we see. You get updates from us as the job moves.
  • The super. We set up access, elevator use and water shutoffs with the super, and we show them where the leak is so it gets fixed.
  • The managing agent or owner. Opening walls is the owner's call, since the building is theirs. We send our findings and a free estimate so they can approve the work.
  • The co-op or condo board. We follow the building's work hours and rules, and ask early about any paperwork the board needs before walls close.

Under Local Law 55, any building with three or more apartments must be kept mold free by its owner, who also has to repair whatever is causing the mold. HPD tells tenants to report leaks and mold to the landlord first, and to use 311 if nothing is done. Our guide to mold in a rented apartment covers both sides in more detail.

Over 10 Square Feet

We remediate, an independent assessor clears

New York State's mold licensing law, Article 32 of the Labor Law, covers any hired mold job larger than 10 square feet, in a private house as much as an apartment building. It also says no licensee may assess and remediate the same property. A homeowner working on their own property is exempt.

The city adds a rule for bigger buildings. In a building with 10 or more apartments, Local Law 61 of 2018 says the owner, the managing agent and their own staff can't do mold work over 10 square feet themselves; it has to go to outside licensed firms.

On any job over 10 square feet, here's how the roles split:

  • A licensed mold assessor inspects and writes the remediation plan.
  • All Star, as the licensed remediator, writes our work plan from it and does the removal under containment.
  • The assessor comes back to check the space. Containment stays up until that check passes.
  • After that, our crew rebuilds.

On smaller jobs under 10 square feet, no assessor is needed, and we still contain and clean the same careful way.

Shoreline Houses

Drying flooded houses before mold sets in

Some Bronx mold calls come from houses near the water, in places like City Island and Throgs Neck, where flooding soaks the bottom of the drywall, the carpet pad and the wood behind the baseboards. We pull the soaked material, run dehumidifiers and check readings every day, since our guide on how fast mold grows after water damage shows how little time wet walls give you. If mold has already started, it comes out under containment, and the area is cleaned and checked before anything is rebuilt.

Questions

Bronx mold, answered

My landlord painted over the mold and it came back. What now?

Paint doesn't dry a wall. If the moisture behind it is still there, the mold grows right back through. Report it again in writing, and if nothing changes, HPD points tenants to 311.

Can my family stay in the apartment during mold removal?

For one wall or one bathroom, usually yes. The enclosure and negative air keep dust inside the work zone. If someone in the home has a health condition, check with their doctor, and tell us so we can plan around them.

Do you only work in rental buildings?

No. We also take mold jobs in Bronx co-ops, condos, two-family houses and single-family homes. Owners can call us directly, and the inspection and estimate are free. If the mold followed a leak or a fire, our Bronx water damage and Bronx fire damage pages cover that side of the job.

How big is 10 square feet of mold?

About a patch three feet wide by three and a half feet tall. Mold inside a wall is often larger than the stain on the paint, which is why we map the wet area with meters before anyone cuts.

Do you handle water, fire and sewage jobs in the Bronx too?

Yes. Mold is often the second half of a leak or a flood, and we handle the drying, cleanup and rebuild as well. Our Bronx restoration services page lists everything we do in the borough.

Your property. Our priority.

Water, fire, mold, or sewage, one call starts the recovery. We show up fast and we do not leave until it is done right.
